Supporting regulation, connection, and emotional safety for all children

Children’s behaviour and learning are shaped by their experiences of safety, connection, and regulation. Trauma-informed practice is not only important for children who have experienced adversity – it benefits all children, educators, and systems as a “do no harm” approach.

This session provides an accessible, practical introduction to understanding the impact of traumatic experiences in early life, their effects on the nervous system and a child’s view of the world, self, and others, and how this shapes the needs of a child. This is quickly followed by clear guidance on how to apply this knowledge through everyday language, routines, practice, and policies.

Dr Louise Mansell co-developed a trauma-informed approach to demonstrate its benefits for all students, not only those impacted by trauma. Dr Mansell is a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience. She previously led a Children in Care team within the NHS before co-founding and directing the social enterprise Beyond Psychology in the UK. Louise played a key role in developing and delivering a trauma-informed school approach that integrated therapeutic techniques across entire school systems. She later expanded access by developing an online academy for nationwide use. Louise brings together her extensive research and clinical experience to inform her work.

In this session, educators will learn:

  • How stress, attachment, and regulation influence young children’s behaviour and learning
  • How to interpret behaviour through a lens of curiosity and emotional development
  • Ways to create environments that feel curious, containing, empathic, and predictable
  • Practical strategies that support children’s capacity for regulation, confidence, and engagement

Educators will leave with:

  • Trauma-informed strategies that are easy to embed into daily practice
  • Increased confidence responding to challenging moments
  • Tools that support wellbeing across the whole setting

Suitable for early learning settings seeking to strengthen emotional wellbeing, inclusion, and educator confidence.

We can’t wait to purchase one!

“This is a truly wonderful product. The bear was treated like a VIP from the moment we brought it home. The impact was profound: my boys were talking about emotions more freely in such a short space of time, naming feelings, talking about times they were brave, and even creating their own emotional combinations. The parent instructions and guidance will be a welcome addition. ”

Our children love this bear.

“It helped my daughter calm herself down independently, instead of needing us to help her, which she felt proud of having done. As well as using it as a definite comfort item, especially at night. The bear was involved in games, play, and even went on a bike ride.”
